Bull of the Month - July 2006

Limousin Bull - Pantin - The Camden Park "Bull of the month" for July

There are few things in nature as spectacular as the awesome power, majesty and beauty of a true champion bull.

We've decided to hold our own monthly pageant as a hommage to these magnificent animals.

For the month of July we've chosen to showcase, Pantin, a pedigree Limousin bull from the beautiful county of Carmarthenshire in Wales.

He was born in 1999 and when not munching the lush welsh pastures of his home likes nothing better than to spread his noble genes far and wide.

All you of lovers of Bovine Beauty, send us a photograph of your favourite Bull and

We'll send a bottle of Camden Park Shiraz-Petit Verdot to those whose pictures we publish!

The Most Dangerous Sport In The World?

bullride.jpg

I was talking the other day to a friend of mine in the USA. He said that a couple of weeks back he went to a Bull Rodeo.

Now, I’ve heard of Rodeo’s with horses but never with bulls.

He says it’s widely known, by those on the circuit, to be the most dangerous sport in the world. Last weekend I was flicking aimlessly through the Sky channels on TV and came across footage of a recent competition on the Extreme Sports network.

I think he could be right! This is just an insane pastime. Then injuries suffered by Cowboys are frequent and traumatic to say the least. I could swear that one guy’s knee and lower leg went through 180 degrees before he was stretchered out of the arena.

A Passion For Beef - Part 1

In addition to making wines where “There Ain’t Nothing Bigger”, we have a passion for all things beefy. As enthusiasts, we do all we can to hunt down the best steaks and this has led us on an interesting path to the some great breeders around the globe. Since this is a bit of a passion for us, we thought that there might be folks out there who also love a good steak, we are happy to help out with some tips on the subject.

Over the coming months, we'll try our hand at probing the depths of the beef industry from the ins and outs (so to speak) of the breeding trade to tips from beef-minded chefs as to how to cook the many different cuts from a fine beast as well as what’s hot from around the world.

To get the “bull rolling” (to coin a phrase), we’d like to introduce you to Richard Guy’s Real Meat Company. The company was founded in the 1980’s and simply believes that the best tasting meat comes from animals that have been reared respectfully with as little human intervention as possible.

They have a number of outlets around the UK including a fantastic store in Harrogate, North Yorkshire run by the ebullient Robbie Pinder and Richard Setchfield.

A while ago, Rob introduced us to the delights of the Beef Chop (known elsewhere as a ribsteak, I think). What a brilliant cut! It’s a trimmed rib chop which can be cooked on the bone like a steak. Better still, it grills up fantastically well over an open fire. The meat is dry aged for up to 30 days and has a taste like no other.

Best Quality, Best Taste

One of the overriding comments from the Camden Park “Steak Out” Party, was how good the food was.

We went out of our way to source the best ingredients to make the evening memorable.

The meat came from the superb Ginger Pig butchers in Borough Market. Not only did they provide us with the finest cuts of Rib Eye, Sirloin and Rump steaks but they also sent along their head butcher Chris to make sure the meat was cut up just the way we wanted it. Now, that’s what we call service and thanks Chris for all your help.

Our cheese board was selected from the stellar, Neals Yard Dairy, a proper, traditional Cheesemongers who mature their stock to perfection before offering it for sale.

Finally, Clarke's Bakery provided us with a wondeful selection of bread. it's easy sometimes to forget how incredible a carefully made loaf can taste!

We believe that seeking out the best suppliers and working with them is well worth the effort and you’ll become used to this being a recurring theme on Camden Park.net

Camden Park Steak Out! at The Tate Modern

We were really stoked to sponsor the “Camden Park Steak Out” at Tate Modern after day two of this year’s biggest-ever London International Wine and Spirit Fair.

Luxury Transportation!

Fabulous steaks from fearsomely well-hung bulls (all cooked rare, naturally) were consumed by over 150 ravenous carnivores, followed a fine selection of award winning cheeses and washed down, of course, with plenty of Camden Park.

Shiny Happy People

Live coverage of the Champions’ League Final kept the footie fans happy, and afterwards the group boogied down to cool sounds from DJ SandraD of the ultra-hip Ghetto Club and Sheila Chipperfield, ex-Elastica bassist. In sum, a brilliant night was enjoyed by all.

Pink Ladies

As if that’s wasn’t enough. Over £2,000 was raised for the Buddies of the Benevolent – a great cause. Cheers!

Welcome To Camden Park

In 1820 James Macarthur single-handedly created the Australian
wine industry by shipping vine cuttings from the South African Cape to his
homestead at Camden Park near where Sydney stands today.

Sharing the voyage was a herd of pedigree Shorthorn cattle also destined for
Macarthur's ranch.

Since that day, Australian wine and beef have been inextricably
linked. From the moment that ship dropped anchor in Botany Bay, the two have been inseparable soul mates.

That's why there's a well-hung bull that adorns our label.

Macarthur was a duelist, adventurer, explorer, sailor and dreamer and
Camden Park is our tribute to this maverick pioneer, we hope he would have approved.

Now, let's get stuck in........
